Flatten a PDF

A filled-in form stays editable: the recipient can change your answers. Flattening turns those fields into fixed content — visible and printable, but frozen.

Free · no account · nothing uploaded

Returning a filled PDF form without flattening it means sending a document the recipient can edit before filing it. For a signed quote or an administrative request, that is a weakness.

How it works

Drop your file on the page, or click to pick it from your folders.

Start the job. It runs inside your browser: nothing is sent to a server.

Download the result. No account, no watermark, no queue.

When this really helps

Return a form

Your answers can no longer be altered afterwards.

Archive a file

The document freezes in the state it was approved in.

Make printing reliable

Some readers do not print form fields; flattened, the problem disappears.

What the conversion keeps, and what it loses

Working inside a browser comes with limits a hosted service does not have. Here they are in plain words, so you know what to expect before you start.

What is kept

  • The values you entered, in place
  • Layout and fonts
  • The document text, selectable
  • Images and drawn signatures

What is not carried over

  • The editability of the fields — that is the point
  • Dropdowns and checkboxes, now drawings
  • The form’s automatic calculations
  • Certificate-based electronic signatures, which become invalid

Worth knowing about the format

Flattening relies on pdf-lib: field appearances are drawn into the page content, then the form is removed. If an appearance cannot be regenerated, the form is simply deleted — what is already displayed stays visible.

Not the right tool?

Why it's free

Online converters receive your file on their servers, process it, then promise to delete it. Every document costs them computing time: that is why they charge, and why they cap file sizes.

Here, the work happens on your own computer. The page contains no server code: your document cannot be received, because it is never sent. So there is nothing to bill, nothing to cap, and nothing to delete afterwards. Cut your connection once the page has loaded — everything keeps working.

Frequently asked questions

Do my answers stay readable?

Yes, and in exactly the same place. They simply stop being editable fields and become page content.

Can I undo it?

Not on the produced file. Keep your original — a general rule with these tools.

What if my PDF has no form?

The tool says so and simply re-saves the document, changing nothing.
