Edit the metadata of a PDF

Metadata is what your reader shows in the title bar and what your system searches on. A document exported from a word processor is often called "Document1": here is where you fix that.

Free · no account · nothing uploaded

A PDF you pass on keeps the name of its author in its metadata, the name of the software, and sometimes the path of the original file. That is often awkward — and conversely, a well-described document turns up in a search.

How it works

Drop your file on the page, or click to pick it from your folders.

Start the job. It runs inside your browser: nothing is sent to a server.

Download the result. No account, no watermark, no queue.

When this really helps

Name a document properly

The displayed title stops being "Document1" or "Untitled".

Claim authorship

State the author or organisation on a distributed document.

Make a collection searchable

Consistent keywords make an archive usable.

What the conversion keeps, and what it loses

Working inside a browser comes with limits a hosted service does not have. Here they are in plain words, so you know what to expect before you start.

What is kept

  • All document content
  • Text, images and layout
  • The fields you leave blank
  • The original creation date

What is not carried over

  • The previous values of the fields you fill in
  • The name of the producing software, replaced
  • Nothing else: the content is not re-encoded

Worth knowing about the format

The fields written are those of the PDF information dictionary: Title, Author, Subject, Keywords. The modification date is updated. Page content is untouched.

Not the right tool?

Why it's free

Online converters receive your file on their servers, process it, then promise to delete it. Every document costs them computing time: that is why they charge, and why they cap file sizes.

Here, the work happens on your own computer. The page contains no server code: your document cannot be received, because it is never sent. So there is nothing to bill, nothing to cap, and nothing to delete afterwards. Cut your connection once the page has loaded — everything keeps working.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from "Clean the metadata"?

The other tool erases everything so the file reveals nothing. This one writes chosen values. They complement each other: clean first, then write back what you stand behind.

Is this information visible in the document?

No, it does not print. It appears in the file properties and in the reader’s title bar.

Can I clear an existing field?

This tool writes but does not erase. To empty the fields, use "Clean the metadata".
