A single document rarely suits all its readers: the accountant wants the invoices, the client wants their page, the archive wants everything. Splitting avoids sending a hundred pages to someone expecting one.
How it works
Drop your file on the page, or click to pick it from your folders.
Start the job. It runs inside your browser: nothing is sent to a server.
Download the result. No account, no watermark, no queue.
When this really helps
Isolate what concerns each person
A yearly statement becomes twelve monthly sends.
Separate a scanned batch
A continuous scan of several documents becomes one file per document.
Lighten a send
Two 4 MB files get through where a single 8 MB one is refused.
What the conversion keeps, and what it loses
Working inside a browser comes with limits a hosted service does not have. Here they are in plain words, so you know what to expect before you start.
What is kept
- The exact quality of the pages
- Selectable text and embedded fonts
- Page sizes, even when they differ
- The original order inside each piece
What is not carried over
- Bookmarks and the table of contents
- Filled form fields
- Electronic signatures, which become void
Need the other direction? Merge PDFs does exactly the opposite, with the same guarantees.
Worth knowing about the format
From two pieces onwards the files are gathered into a ZIP archive your system opens with a double click. Each file carries its page or range number.
Not the right tool?
Why it's free
Online converters receive your file on their servers, process it, then promise to delete it. Every document costs them computing time: that is why they charge, and why they cap file sizes.
Here, the work happens on your own computer. The page contains no server code: your document cannot be received, because it is never sent. So there is nothing to bill, nothing to cap, and nothing to delete afterwards. Cut your connection once the page has loaded — everything keeps working.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write the ranges?
Separate them with commas: “1-3, 4, 5-12” produces three files. A single number gives a single page. Ranges may overlap without trouble.
Does splitting reduce quality?
No. Pages are copied identically, with no re-encoding: text stays text and images keep their resolution.
What if I just want to cut it in two?
Pick the range mode and type for instance “1-10, 11-20”: you get two files.
Other tools
Edit the text in a PDF — Fix a line that is already written, even on a scanned document. This is the feature other services charge for, and the natural starting point when you need to retouch before converting.
